Call Me New New!
New year new…? Every January I make a short list of places I would love to visit and things that I want to do over the course of the year. Some years I am able to take the world by storm while others I am just able to scratch the surface; either way, I roll from one year to the next chasing my dreams. This year, I took the long flight back from Brazil to do my annual self-reflection and compiled my list. Here are a few things from my 2019 vision let me know what you think!
-Spend my birthday at a National Park/Monument. The more I travel the world, the more I appreciate the beauty of America. There is so much nature and beauty right in my backyard and I want to experience more of it.
-Travel to somewhere in Central/South America. Brazil opened my eyes to the beauty of South America. At times I forget that Black people are represented in cultures and societies all around the world. No matter where our roots are in the world, we are alike—our skin soaks up the sun and our hair defies gravity. I want to experience the beauty of being Black from the perspective of a Non-American individual.
-Read more books. Last summer I read so many books, but life happened and I struggled to find time to read. This year I am going to allow myself time to get lost in a story that is not my own.
-Find financial freedom. Financial freedom differs person to person. My goal this year is to pay down my mortgage. All extra cash that I have I will dedicate to significantly reducing my principal.
